Araria DDC suspended

Deputy Development Commissioner [DDC] Uday Kumar Singh has been suspended with immediate effect by the state government on the charges of dereliction of duty and failure to take punitive action against officials engaged in faulty implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act [MNREGA] in  the district.

Singh belonged to Bihar Administrative service cadre.  The Bihar Government also ordered departmental proceedings against Singh. It is learnt that Araria D M had, following complaints about large-scale irregularities in implementation of the scheme, asked an NGO to randomly survey at least one panchayat each from the nine blocks in the district about the schemes implementation.
