The recovery of the body of an 18 –year-old youth, Bambam Yadav, from Ashok Nagar locality under Kankerbagh police station here on Wednesday evening triggered tension followed by a high-voltage drama. As soon as locals recovered the body from a ditch, they laid siege to the new Bypass Road bringing the traffic to a stand still.
Kankerbagh police along with personnel from the nearby Patrakarnagar P S reached the spot and tried to pacify the residents who were demanding arrest of those involved in the killing. The local s also charged the police with laxity in their duty.
The locals then started pelting stones on the police party in which Patrakar nagar SHO Dhirendra Pandey received head injury. He was later taken to a private nursing home for treatment. Around a dozen policemen also sustained injuries in stone pelting. 2 police vehicles set afire by the mob.
Seeing the situation going out of control, the police fired teargas shells to disperse the mob. City SP Manu Mahraj rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Mahraj said Yadav had been missing for last 10 days. He however, denied that the deceased’s family had received any ransom call. The SP said the situation is tense, but under control. No arrest has been made in this connection so far. It seems clear case of abduction and murder and also indicates bad governance of the police force, murders, dacoities and kidnappings have become the regular acts of criminals as day-routine works.
