The Railway budget, which is slated to be presented in Lok Sabha in Feb, is likely to decide the fate of several railway projects pending for long in Bihar.
The fate of two ambitious projects-diesel locomotive manufacturing factory at Marhaura in Saran district at a cost of Rs 1,400 crore and electric locomotive manufacturing unit at Madhepura at a cost of Rs 2025 crore—will be decided in the ensuing budget. According to a Railwar Board official, railways had earlier decided to complete these two major projects in Bihar its own. However, the railways later decided to complete them on public-private partnership [PPP] basis. A few private companies from foreign countries had also shown keen interest in these two projects. Unfortunately, the proposals have not materialized so far, he said.ECR’s CRPO Dilip Kumar said railways had been carrying out work on coach maintenance workshop at Harnaut, wheel factory at Belapur, CHHAPRA and DEMU maintenance workshop at Sonepur. These projects would be completed within the stipulated time to fulfil the needs of railways, he said.
All under taken prime Railways Projects were sanctioned during the ministership of Laloo Prasad , he is the person who brought such type of esteemed projects in Bihar. The loss of Mahraura and Madhepura would be great and unrecoverable loss of the state and Nitish Kumar should do all measures to keep alive both otherwise Biharis will never forgive him on these two projects.
