One person was killed and stray cases of violence reported in the fifth phase of Bihar assembly elections in Arwal district on Tuesday. According to provisional figures, an average of 50 percent polling was recorded in Arwal and Kurtha constituencies of Arwal district.
Like Jehanabad, the Maoist threats failed to deter the voters in Arwal district. The Maoist strong holds like Pondil, Repura, Rajepur, Chandokhar and Paharpura in Kurtha constituency witnessed over 70 percent polling. In some of Muslim-dominated localities in Arwal town there were long queues of burqa clad women waiting for their turn to exercise their franchise.
Mrs. Suchitra Sinha sitting JDU MLA and ex-minister in Nitish Kumar cabinet is contesting election on Congress ticket and facing toughest opponents from RJD-LJP and NCP candidates. Perhaps she may not be able to retain her seat, this time, chances of victory of RJD-LJP combine seems high.
In Arwal constituency the sitting LJP MLA Dularchandra Yadav locked horn with triangular contest with Congress and NDA candidate, polarization of RJD-LJP combine vote bank seems working here and Dularchand Yadav may retain his seat.
